Twaddle, Purging and Laura and Mary

We recently moved. In fact, to be truthful, we are still moving. IT IS EXHAUSTING! But it is also a wonderful opportunity for a good purge of junk and twaddle! Twaddle is my new favorite word! Twaddle is the unimportant and distracting nonsense that can deter us from real truth and virtue! Our family vision includes none of it! So...I am ridding our home of twaddle! It's very liberating! It's completely awesome! It lifts the weight off of your shoulders and opens up opportunities for amazing growth and freedom! I love it! It makes me happy to be opening up so many doors for myself and our family! My new favorite quote is "The twaddle must go!" ( I made that up myself, you know! LOL ) We have purged our Core books down to only those that are classics that we will read again and again. (I would still like to find some better books than what we have, but that will come). I have watched my kids find more joy in their work and play, then I ever thought possible! We have less STUFF" than we have ever had before, and they are really happy! We have thrown away or donated so many items that have been cluttering up our minds and our home. We are paving the way for awesome learning experiences!
We finished reading On the Banks of Plum Creek (what my kids affectionately call "Laura and Mary"), today. We are ready to begin On the Shores of Silver Lake, tonight or tomorrow! These books are seriously AWESOME! I know that if I ever want to know how to make cheese or butter, build a cabin with a locking door latch, or cut ice from a frozen pond, I can look in these books to learn how! They are so detailed and thorough in their explanation of things, that your mind can't help but become enthralled in the stories! I highly recommend them! The kids LOVE them and talk about them all the time! Gannon has still been talking about wanting to learn to read! I can't wait to teach him! Zoie is right behind him! :D) Anyway...I suppose that's enough of an update for now! I will let you know how the purging goes!

She's With Me

I stumbled onto this song one day about a week or two ago. It is written and performed by one of my all-time favorite country music artists, Collin Raye, and it's about his grand-daughter who has special needs. This is how I feel about my kiddo's, and in particular, about our youngest daughter. I hope that after all I can do, and after all the mercy I know the good Lord will extend to me, that I get a chance to enter His presence...because She's With Me.

Can there be too much of a good thing?

Have you ever just needed to give yourself a break? Sometimes I feel like I spend too much time trying to make our home school experience like everyone else's. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think there is value in checking out what other's are doing, but at some point it becomes a futile distraction. (Can ya' tell what I've been up to lately???) I have been really interested in some blogs about getting organized (www.lazyorganizer.com, and also www.thetaleofourquest.blogspot.com), and putting a schedule together, and all that jazz! I have also been listening relentlessly, to Core and Love of Learning: A Recipe For Success (absolutely invaluable information). The part I need a break from, is the "relentless" part. :D) I have been learning some AWESOME things...okay, I have been a little obsessed about this learning! So NOW...I am going to quit reading about it for a while, put my Zune down and put some cool ideas into practice, tweak them as needed, and see what happens! I feel like we have some good habits in practice now, and we are ready to kick it up a notch! So here is what we have in the works:

A system for chores, using "Chore Cards"! (I've got some major work ahead with this!)
Purging (specifically the purging of the endless amount of toys that the kids have! And may I say, that after purging the kids' outfits to about eight each, our laundry is getting easier to keep in check!)
Teaching Self-Government (specifically getting our FEC, mentor mtng.'s and family mtng.'s consistently happening)
Inspirational Place Mats for the table! (see www.thetaleofourquest.blogspot.com)

So, there ya' go! My goal is to actually stick with the plan and get these things all implemented! That would be a big accomplishment for me, since I seem to have a problem following through with things, lately! I will return and report and let you all know how it goes! :D)
